Meet Martin: Helping Leaders Navigate the Age of AI

The Tillon Team is growing and with it our capabilities are expanding...

Meet the latest addition to the Tillon Leadership Team - Martin Devitt. Martin’s career has been all about people, leadership, and transformation. From his early years as an army officer to consulting roles in start-ups, mid-sized firms, and EY, he has worked across industries and cultures, helping organisations adapt and thrive. His biggest takeaway from those experiences? Great teams are built on trust, care, and the ability to step up for one another—a principle he sees alive at Tillon today.

From the Sahara to the Boardroom

Martin isn’t afraid of a challenge. Years ago, he and his wife ran the Marathon des Sables—six days across the Sahara Desert—just before their wedding. The experience reinforced a philosophy he still lives by: “If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together.” They have.

Leading in the Age of AI

At Tillon, Martin is focused on two things: building the firm’s delivery engine to ensure clients get the right expertise at the right time, and developing a new service offering—helping leaders lead in the age of AI.

His approach is pragmatic and people-centred. He helps organisations run experiments most useful to their business needs, prioritise AI use cases, and build the right environment for learning and adoption. For Martin, responsible AI starts with honesty and discovery—understanding what tools people are already using, building shared literacy and lessons learnt, and scaling trials that build trust, value, and momentum.

Breaking Down Misconceptions

Martin sees a lot of individual AI use helping individual productivity gains but also bumps into myths that need challenging - that most AI tools are only for tech specialists, and AI support is typically standalone activity alongside but not embedded in business processes. AI is now accessible to everyone and should be, with the right organisational safeguards and training to get people learning core skills on how to make AI work for them and the team. The key is helping leaders and teams experiment confidently, share what works, and learn together.

Looking Ahead

In the next three years, Martin believes AI will shift from adoption to assumption. Businesses will expect AI to be built into everything they do, with humans and different forms of AI working side by side. Leadership will need to balance opportunity with governance, ensuring people are freed up to deliver unique value where it matters most.

Outside the Office

When he’s not guiding clients, Martin enjoys time with his family—two teenage boys, plenty of sport, and walks with their dog. He’s also studying for a Master’s degree, which keeps his curiosity sharp. For AI insights, he draws on practical voices like Zain Kahn’s Superhuman newsletter, Ethan Mollick’s work at Wharton, and Cassie Kozyrkov’s thinking on decision science.
